Cd-rom driver has problem

One day I got a pop-up saying== "hp CDDVDW TS-H653R SCSI cd rom device has a driver problem"

I have never used my cd rom so how can I have a problem and can I fix it?

I have windows 7 and have not done any upgrades cause I don't know how

I'm 63 and new to computers so any help would be great. Thank you for any help
